Ok, so I am going to try to be pretty active on the discussion boards... hopefully I don't wear my welcome out. LOL

Does this group ever do any overnight hikes? I have only done day hikes before (mostly for photography) and I am wanting to get into some multiple day hikes after I get back into a little better shape. If you guys do, where are some of the places you go? I think I am going to do the Jacks River Falls trail soon (I think it may actually be called Beech Bottom or something like that... been years since I was on it)

Anyway is there any interest in this type of hiking or does everyone mainly do day hikes?

We've hiked the Jacks River Falls trail a couple times now and camped in the wilderness with the consumate Cohutta Wilderness fan/guide, James Workman. We are in fact intending to hike and camp with him this weekend ! That's a beautiful area !!

I know my son and I would be willling to participate also :-) Sounds like you might have somewhere in mind Dennis, any thoughts ?

Are you going to Jacks River Falls trail this weekend? I am planning on hiking there this weekend with a friend and his daughter. I have hiked most of the trail from top down and back (made it to the river but was running out of daylight and it was snowing on us. We had hiked 24 miles total that day... I used to be in shape LOL) I think we are just going to hike from the bottom near the bridge. I have never been on that part of the trail but my friend has hiked it several times.

Unfortunately I really don't have anywhere in mind. I have never done an over night hike before so I am not sure of any good places. I of course would like wherever we go to have some nice photogenic views along the way ;) Do you know of any good places? How far are people willing to travel for a hike BTW?

Dennis,

That is the Beach Bottom trial from the bridge and I believe it has the most, or at least 20 + some river crossings !!! Nason (my son) fell in a gazillion times and pulled me in 1/2 a million of those, LOL, but it was fun..at the end I just gave up. At this point it looks like we will already be out there Sat. day to hike (Jack River Falls area) & be camping there this weekend. We should defnt. find a way to get in touch with each other, would be nice to meet you and your friends and you'd have the opportunity to meet James !! Glad to hear you've decided to get back into hiking and are willing to join us !!!

I can't speak for everyone, but I am willing to drive 2-3 hrs for a hike, which we do quite often actually and since we carpool we're able to get quite a few of us tog. on most hikes this distance. I'm sure between a group of adventerous individuals we could find quite a few places we'd like to go !!! Thanks for speaking up Dennis and getting us thinking !!!

Yeah I have heard there are quite a few river crossings. I think I am just going to go in swimming trunks and expect to get very wet and have fun! I will probably bring my underwater housing for my small camera and play in the water with it too!

As of right now I think we have it planned to start out Sunday morning. Though nothing is set in stone yet. I would love to be able to meet you guys out on this trail though not sure how we could set that up. Yeah I am glad I am getting back into this as well! I am excited about going!

Yeah 2-3 hour drive sounds fine with me. I drive a lot for work as it is so that's not a problem for me. Oh you will find out real quick that I have a tendentious to speak up a lot and get people thinking LOL I love to chat and get involved!
