Bridal Veil Falls

BRIDAL VEIL FALLS

Meeting Time: 9am

Meet at the Memorial Cross

Hike Distance:   Approximately 7 miles

Difficulty:                 Moderate to Difficult       (mostly due to inclines)

Bridal Veil Falls is located along the Perimeter Trail, which is located on the grounds of the University of the South, in Sewanee, TN.

We will do this hike as an out and back. We will start at the Memorial Cross, continuing past Proctor's Hall and Morgan's Steep, then descend to check out Bridal Veil Falls.  Once in this area, we will venture around and explore for a bit.  There are some sinks, crevices, and large boulders in this area to check out.  Upon climbing back out of this area (this is the more strenuous section of the hike), we will then continue on to Elliott's Point, where we will break for lunch/snacks. Once we resume, we return to the Memorial Cross, this time taking the upper trail above Bridal Veil Falls.

After the hike, let's go get some pizza at Crust Pizza, one of Chattanooga Hiking Meetup's sponsors.  Not only do they sponsor us, but they have fantastic pizza ... and they are right by the campus.

Those interested in carpooling from Chattanooga

Meet at the Walmart on Cummings Highway by 7:45am

Please be early or on time. The group will depart the parking lot no later than 7:55.

Directions :

Take 24 west until you reach exit 134 (for 41A ... not 41 ... it is the one after that one).  Make a left.  Continue on for about 5 miles until you see signs for the campus entrance on your right.

Upon reaching the campus, the address given will take you to a chapel on the main road within the campus grounds.  If you continue on that road, look for a street called Tennesee Avenue on your right.  This is the road where the Memorial Cross is.  Follow this road to the end.  I don't have an actual address for the cross location itself, but you won't be able to miss the cross;  I promise. If you need to call me, feel free.  My number is listed above.

NO-SHOWS:  As with all Meetups, if you are a "YES" and you discover you cannot come, please be polite and change your RSVP to a "NO" as soon as possible.  Don't be a "no-show".  Organizers try to ensure that we don't leave anyone behind, and if we are waiting on you when you know you are not coming, it only holds up the group unnecessarily.  Please be considerate.

WEATHER As with all outdoor events, if it's raining/stormy or very poor trail conditions, we may have to cancel.  If the weather is questionable, please check this event page before you leave home.

LET'S GO HIT THE TRAILS ! !

I'm not sure Deborah, I could go either way. Lets meet at Wal-Mart and figure out who's riding with who and pair it up correctly.

Loved the falls, but especially loved going into the sink, and then crawling into the caves. Was great getting to meet some new folks, too. Great bunch of people, followed by some great food/beverages at our local sponsor Crust Pizza afterward.
