Hike Details
We will begin at what is known as the Stone Door Ranger Station, then hike toward the Stone Door itself, which is a 150-foot deep crevice at the crest of the plateau, by which we will then descend and enter into Big Creek Gulf. This next section will be the strenuous part of our hike. We will then follow the Big Creek Gulf trail, climb out, and head to Greeter Falls. We will see several waterfalls along the way (Boardtree Falls, Upper Greeter Falls, and Lower Greeter Falls). We will then return by way of the Big Creek Rim trail, during which we will have the opportunity to check out some spectacular views from several different overlook points.

Carpooling
If you'd like to carpool from Chattanooga, please plan to meet at the Walmart off of Cummings Highway in Chattanooga no later than 8:30am est. Please be prepared to be courteous and share in the cost of gas expenses with your driver.
Look forward to seeing you on this hike
I'll travel north on 27 through Soddy Daisy then west on 111. I'd be glad to take others if anybody else wants to carpool along that route.
6AM (CENTRAL time) carpool from Sam's Club in Murfreesboro, TN for the Nashville area folks heading south. It'll take about 2hrs to get there and be ready, etc... AND it's a 9am EASTERN time start. We should be wheels up from Sam's Club no later than 6:10am.
Will poles be a help or a hindrance on this hike( will we be crawling over boulders or crossing streams)?
I'm not a trekking pole user, so it's hard for me to say whether they'd be a help or hindrance .... yes, there are some sections where there are rocks... other sections are pretty smooth ... there are some water areas that we will see, but I am not anticipating any water crossings in the context to which you refer. I think you're going to like this hike. I've never done this one in winter, but I can only imagine how amazing the falls will be. Be sure to bring your camera.
Yes, William, it is posted that it is eastern time. In fact, ALL hikes posted through CHM are posted in eastern time. We figure since the club is based out of Chattanooga, and Chattanooga is in the eastern time zone, it just makes it easier to always post based on the time where the club is from. That way people don't have to wonder each time, and there is no confusion about which way the clock goes. Bottom line, yes 10am eastern.
Just a reminder .... DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME BEGINS the weekend of this hike. Please be sure to set your clocks an hour forward Saturday night so that you do not miss the hike.
