Last Minute Hike - The Walls of Jericho

Last Minute Hike

The Dude and I have gotten an unexpected oppurtunity to hike, we are hitting the Walls!

Come hike what is known as

“The Grand Canyon of the South”

Hike Distance:   7 miles

Rating:   Moderate to strenuous

Items to Bring:

  • PLENTY of water, water, water, and snacks/lunch.
  • This hike will burn some calories, so please be sure to bring some replenishment.
  • Hiking boots/shoes strongly recommended.
  • Trekking poles are optional; if you have them, you'll want to bring them.

Hiking time:  approximately 5 hours

Meeting time: 9:30 am EST

The name was derived as a result of when a traveling minister had come upon the Walls of Jericho in the late 1800s, and was so captivated by the cathedral-like beauty that he declared it needed a biblical name, and the name stuck.

The hike we'll be journeying on is about 3.5 miles in length, one way, and is downhill most of the route into the gorge. That, of course, means that the hike back will be mostly uphill. It can be a strenuous hike, so wear comfortable shoes and take plenty of water and snacks. The trail is well marked but can also be muddy for days if it rains.

We will travel to the bottom of a 50-yard-wide limestone bowl and look up at 200-foot-tall cliffs on each side.

We will be crossing several streams via some cool little wooden bridges....

         ....  plus more

No-Shows: As with all Meetup's, please be polite -- if you are a YES RSVP, please show up. If you can't make it, change your YES to a NO as soon as possible. Please don't be a "no-show!"

WEATHER:  As with all outdoor events, if it's raining/stormy or very poor trail conditions, we may have to cancel. If the weather is questionable, please check this event page before you leave home.

Yes it is a awesome hike, I am hoping with all the rain to see water coming into the upper sink.

May be taking a group of scouts camping this weekend at CCSP on a two hour Trail Maint / Hike tomorrow. Looking iffy though as they haven't shown up to check in yet. If it falls through, will join y'all! This one has been on my 'bucket' list. :)
