South Cumberland Visitor Center (map)
WATERFALL TRIO TOUR
Meeting Time: 9am
Meeting Location: South Cumberland Visitor Center, Monteagle, TN
Hiking Distance: 5 miles
Hike Rating: moderate
Pace: leisurely paced interpretive walk

Join state naturalist, Randy Hedgepath, as he leads us on a waterfall tour hike in the South Cumberland Recreation Area.
We will meet at the South Cumberland Visitor Center, and then drive to Savage Gulf to do 3 short hikes to spectacular waterfalls. The hikes will be a half mile walk to see Laurel Falls, a 1.5 mile walk to see Greeter (upper and lower) and Boardtree (upper and lower), and lastly a 1.5 mile walk to see Suter Falls.
There will be a short drive between hikes, with rest and food available at local stores. The hikes will be moderate because they are short, but will feature some rugged terrain. There will be a lot of stops for nature interpretation along the walks as well. This will also provide you opportunities to rest, just in case you're worried about handling the rougher terrain.

No-Shows: As with all Meetup's, please be polite -- if you are a YES RSVP, please show up. If you can't make it, please change your YES to a NO as soon as possible. Please don't be a "no-show!"
As a group, we are fortunate that most of our members are very respectful in this way, and we thank you and appreciate you for that.
WEATHER: As with all outdoor events, if it's raining/stormy or very poor trail conditions, we may have to cancel. If the weather is questionable, please check this event page before you leave home.
Please make every effort to arrive early or on time
so that you do not hold up the group.
I will be doing this same tour as a part of the Fall Creek Falls Waterfall Weekend offered by the park. You should meet at the Fall Creek Falls Inn at 9 AM Central on March 10, 2012.
I recommend people bring a hiking staff or stick on every hike, as there are always rocks or roots or wet leaves to contend with.
Randy...Thanks so much for letting the CHM members know about the event offered at Fall Creek Falls, is there anyone at the Park the CHM members should notify before the event on March 10th ?
It is not necessary to notify anyone at Fall Creek Falls. There are several things planned for the weekend so you may want to ask for a schedule when it comes out in March.
Claire ... not sure if you're directing your question at CHM or Randy's reference to the Fall Creek Falls event .... CHM tends to limit to 20 most times (or less if park rules indicate such) ... makes the group more manageable and leaves less of a "footprint" ... Randy would have to answer for the other
Is there any age limits for this group? Are kids allowed on these hikes?
Kids are welcome on all of our hikes. As a parent, you will know your child's abilities, so you will need to determine which ones you think your child(ren) are capable of doing, but yes they are welcome.
With temps only reaching a high of 29º and the winding blowing steadily at 20mph, is this hike still on? I haven't seen any updates yet! And I'm debating wether it's worth subjecting myself and my pup to the climate conditions. Please advise.
Randy's number is 615-418-5787. Feel free to contact him with any questions.
I've been in contact with Melissa......she stated she tried to call Randy and it went straight to voicemail. She left him a message. She also said she can't access the internet right now. She & Nason won't be going either, little man's been sick so best he recuperates completely!!!
How about Aaron's pic?? You trying to say he can't take good photos? Aaron, I would be upset if she was talking about me like that!
Well Aaron's going to be too far away to do anything ;>) So ha ! I look fwd to seeing his too !
Well.. After seeing what Dennis can do with his camera, I'm looking forward to his pictures as well.
Great thanks Aaron! Now I am feeling pressure from you as well to have good photos! ;)
Awww, whatever Dennis. And Aaron don't inflate the head !
Dennis.......the pictures you've uploaded are absolutely stunning!!! Thanks for sharing. I hate that I missed this hike, but you've made it worth while in photos!!
I actually missed a few of the falls and views because both of my batteries on my camera froze. I was able to thaw them out for the last part of the hikes though!!
We currently have a waiting list for this hike. If you are interested in going on the hike, you will need to join the waiting list. If someone drops out, and a spot opens up, then the next person in line will be added in. When people drop, it pulls from the waiting list in the order that people signed up. Good luck to all on the waiting list.
